Plot summary
At Castle Air Force Base in California, the Strategic Air Command is preparing to bring the B-52 Stratofortress into service as its main bomber, and Master Sergeant Chuck Brennan is the man who keeps the squadron's aircraft flying. After twenty years in the Air Force, he is considering a civilian job that would pay three times his military salary instead of staying in uniform. His new commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Jim Herlihy, is a pilot Brennan has not trusted since an incident in Korea, and the feud gets in the way of flight operations and aircraft support. When Herlihy begins dating Brennan's daughter Lois, Brennan tells her to break it off.
