Jim Brown
Biography
Jim Brown was an American football player and actor who spent his NFL career as a fullback for the Cleveland Browns, from 1957 to 1965. He was born on St. Simons Island, Georgia, and played college football at Syracuse University, where he earned unanimous All-America honors and later entered the College Football Hall of Fame. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in each of his nine seasons, won three AP Most Valuable Player awards, and helped Cleveland take the 1964 NFL championship; he entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971. Brown began acting before his retirement, first playing a buffalo soldier in Rio Conchos, and he went on to appear in The Dirty Dozen (1967), Ice Station Zebra (1968) as a Marine captain, and 100 Rifles (1969), which drew notice for its interracial love scene. Later films included The Running Man (1987) and Any Given Sunday (1999), and he was called Hollywood's first black action hero.

Jim Brown retired from the NFL in July 1966 at age 30 while in England filming The Dirty Dozen, after owner Art Modell threatened fines for missing training camp.
First role
Before the 1964 season, Brown started acting. He played a buffalo soldier in the Western action film Rio Conchos, which premiered at Cleveland's Hippodrome theater on October 23.

In the film, Brown received top billing ahead of Raquel Welch and Burt Reynolds, and his love scene with Welch was the first interracial one in a major Hollywood movie.
