Plot summary
In 1916, Devil's Island, the French penal colony in Guiana, holds its convicts. Conditions in the prison are grim, and a plan for escape is taking shape among them. Le Bras and Davert are two of the men held there, and they mean to get away from the island. The route they plan would take them to a colony of lepers and to native women.
