Plot summary
A phone call between Muhammad Ali and his daughter Hana begins the story: he tells her that he may box one more time, and she, still a young child, asks him not to. Recordings Ali made of his own conversations during the 1970s, interviews with family, friends and figures from boxing, and archival footage carry the rest. Those accounts reach back to his childhood and to the theft of his bicycle, the episode that led him into boxing at twelve. His brother Rahaman recalls that Ali believed he would be among the greatest boxers. His matches with Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Sonny Liston are discussed, along with his conversion to Islam, his change of name from Cassius Clay and his refusal of military service on religious grounds.
