George Dzundza

Biography

George Dzundza is an American retired actor who was born in Rosenheim, Germany, and grew up in New York City. He began acting in college and made his professional stage debut in a 1973 staging of King Lear for the New York Shakespeare Festival. He also appeared on Broadway in The Ritz and Legend. His film credits include The Deer Hunter (1978), Basic Instinct (1992), Crimson Tide (1995), Dangerous Minds (1995), No Way Out (1987), White Hunter Black Heart (1990), The Butcher's Wife (1991), and City by the Sea (2002). For the Robert Altman film Streamers (1983), he and the ensemble cast won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice International Film Festival. On television, he played Sergeant Max Greevey during the first season of Law & Order, Tom Grzelack on Hack, and Harold O'Malley on Grey's Anatomy, and he voiced Arnold Wesker, also known as the Ventriloquist, and Perry White in the DC Animated Universe.

Dzundza went to Xavier High School and St. Johns University, and he studied theater under Stella Adler and Harold Clurman.

Dzundza's professional stage debut came in 1973, in a New York Shakespeare Festival staging of King Lear. That production was shown afterward as an episode of Great Performances.
