Plot summary
In an Arctic cave, Victor Fries has made a home with his adopted son Koonak and two polar bears, while his wife Nora stays in cryogenic suspension until he can cure her illness. A research submarine breaks through the cave floor and cracks her chamber, and Nora's condition worsens quickly. Fries traps the submarine crew in ice and heads back to Gotham City, turning to his former colleague Dr. Gregory Belson for help. Belson concludes that an organ transplant is Nora's only chance, and her rare blood type points to a single match, Barbara Gordon. Fries abducts Barbara while she is out with Dick Grayson and takes her to an abandoned oil platform.

Series developer Bruce Timm, who was not involved with the film, would not have brought Nora Fries back to life, considering her dead. When he learned the film would revive her, he dropped a plan to adapt Glen Murakami's story "White Christmas" as the New Batman Adventures episode "Holiday Knights".
