Plot summary
Vincent LaMarca investigates homicides for the New York City police and has built his career on distance from his past. His father was executed when Vincent was eight, after a child his father had kidnapped died in his care. Vincent lives alone in Manhattan, and Michelle, his girlfriend, does not know he has a son. Joey, his son, is a homeless addict in Long Beach, the shore town Vincent left; the two have not met in fourteen years. When a drug-related killing there points to Joey, Vincent refuses to help him, and Michelle cannot understand why. Gina, Joey's girlfriend and the mother of his infant son Angelo, is trying to stay sober and begs Vincent to save Joey.
