Biography

Brad Garrett is an American actor and stand-up comedian who started in Los Angeles comedy clubs in the early 1980s. He won the comedy category of Star Search in 1984 and soon appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He first gained wide attention as Robert Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, the CBS sitcom that debuted in 1996 and ran for nine seasons. That part brought him five Emmy Award nominations and three wins, in 2002, 2003 and 2005. He also had the lead on Fox's 'Til Death from 2006 to 2010 and later starred in ABC's Single Parents from 2018 to 2020. As a voice actor, he has been heard in films including Casper (1995), A Bug's Life (1998), Finding Nemo (2003), Ratatouille (2007), Tangled (2010) and Christopher Robin (2018), and he played Murray the Cop on Broadway in a 2005 revival of The Odd Couple.

    In 1984, Garrett won Star Search's comedy category as its first $100,000 grand champion. That victory brought his first appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson at age 23.

  2. A role that slipped away

    Garrett hoped to make a spin-off of his Everybody Loves Raymond character Robert Barone after the show ended in 2005, but he withdrew that October because CBS did not act and several Raymond writers took other jobs.

    In 2021, Garrett helped create the Disney+ series Big Shot, working alongside David E. Kelley and Dean Lorey on the show.
