Plot summary
Johnny Worricker, a former MI5 officer, has been living in the Turks and Caicos Islands under the name Tom Eliot. Curtis Pelissier, an American, insists the two of them have met somewhere before, and Worricker takes him for a CIA agent. Pelissier brings him to dinner with three investor-entrepreneurs who co-own a company called Gladstone, and with Melanie Fall, who leads their public relations agency. The men doubt Worricker's account of himself as a former civil servant. The next morning, one of them is found dead in the sea, and Fall seems to know more than she says.
