Egypt, 1300 B.C. The Hebrews have been slaves for four hundred years, and Moses, a general in the royal household, has been raised as the adoptive brother of Prince Ramses. Seti rules as pharaoh, and a High Priestess foretells that one of the two will save the other in battle and become a great leader. Moses saves Ramses from the Hittites, then travels to Pithom, where Viceroy Hegep oversees the slaves. There he meets the Hebrew Nun and learns that he was born a slave, saved as an infant by his sister Miriam. Two Hebrews report the story to Hegep. Seti dies, Ramses becomes pharaoh, and Queen Tuya demands Moses be put to death; Ramses exiles him instead. Moses settles in Midian with Zipporah, until a voice from a burning bush calls him to free his people.
