A few days before Christmas, Steve Anderson is released on parole after serving time as a getaway driver. His parole officer, Ruth, makes it clear that a missed meeting will send him back inside. Reindeer are reported wandering London's streets. Then Steve's son Tom calls him: he has found Santa Claus asleep in the family's garden shed. Santa mentions a shooting star Steve saw as a child, but Steve takes him for a madman and shows him out.
