Plot summary
In 1944 the German military hauls about 25 tons of gold ingots away from Paris to the Bosnian town of Bosansko Grahovo and puts them in a bank vault. The townspeople are arrested; one boy escapes and Yugoslav partisans find him. During the Bosnian war in 1995, a U.S. Navy SEAL team disguised as journalists captures General Milić and escapes Petrović's pursuit. Rear Admiral Levin reprimands the team and grants three days' leave. Stanton Baker is drawn to Lara Simić, a waitress. Thugs led by her brother Milenko demand what she keeps hidden, and Matt Barnes drives them off. Lara holds a gold ingot worth about $150,000 that her grandfather, the boy who survived Grahovo, took. She tells the team the flooded vault holds at least 2,000 ingots worth at least $300 million, in Petrović's territory.
