Plot summary
On the strength of four wins, Carl Lucas, who races as Frankenstein, is one victory away from the freedom promised to him and his pit crew. The Death Race's owner, R. H. Weyland, has lost the rights to the show in a hostile takeover by Niles York, a British billionaire who plans to move the competition to South Africa. York fears the loss of Frankenstein's following and tells Lucas he will be killed if he wins. Lucas, Katrina Banks, Goldberg and Lists are moved to the desert track, where the navigators fight in armed combat for ten seats and every driver and navigator is fitted with a GPS tracker that lets the producers kill anyone who tries to escape. The first race runs across Kalahari desert terrain that demands a new strategy.
