Plot summary
An elderly woman jumps to her death from the flat above Mia Selva's, and beside the body Mia finds torn pieces of a photograph of Ludwig Giroux, the trumpeter she once loved. Because the picture was never given to anyone but her, she pays Max, the caretaker of the building, to let her into the dead woman's flat. There she finds her own family photograph, her own pill containers and a television showing the year 2046, and understands that the old woman was herself. Max, upset that she has taken a letter from the flat, brings her into the lift, which can travel backward and forward through time. From it, Mia can return to the stages of her life she most wants to change.
