David Suchet
Biography
David Suchet is an English actor with a long career on stage and screen. Born in Paddington, London, he trained at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in London and first worked professionally at the Gateway Theatre in Chester in 1969. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1973 and played Bolingbroke in Richard II. On television he portrayed Edward Teller in Oppenheimer (1980) and Augustus Melmotte in The Way We Live Now (2001), winning Royal Television Society and Broadcasting Press Guild awards. His role as Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie's Poirot from 1989 to 2013 brought him a 1991 British Academy Television Award nomination. His films include Harry and the Hendersons (1987), A Perfect Murder (1998), The Bank Job (2008), and Flood (2007). He has earned nine Olivier Award nominations and one Tony Award nomination, and became an OBE in 2002, a CBE in 2011, and was knighted in 2020.
