Plot summary
Hercule Poirot is a guest on a talk show, where he meets the actor Bryan Martin, who is shooting a detective picture with Jane Wilkinson. He also meets the impressionist Carlotta Adams. At a dinner party the real Jane Wilkinson asks Poirot for help in getting a divorce from her husband, Lord Edgware, and he and Captain Arthur Hastings go to see the man. Edgware has already agreed to the divorce, which delights his wife. The next day Edgware is found dead with a wound to his neck. His household says Jane did it, but guests at a dinner party of twelve say she was with them. Inspector Japp is ready to arrest Jane, so Poirot works the case on his own.
