Plot summary
In August 1990, Iraq's invasion of Kuwait puts CNN's Robert Wiener and his crew on a flight to Baghdad. Settling into their hotel, they notice they are being watched, and they understand that the way they report can get them thrown out of the country. The crew's first piece, on a British boy held hostage by Saddam Hussein, is well received in the United States. Wiener then waits hours to meet Naji Al-Hadithi, the Iraqi Minister of Information, and asks for radio equipment that would let the crew broadcast live, plus an interview with Saddam Hussein. Al-Hadithi instead offers a reporting trip to Kuwait, a destination that has been off limits to other news crews, and Wiener accepts.
