Plot summary
In 1971, British security services want a safety deposit box at a Lloyds Bank branch on Baker Street, where the black militant Michael X keeps compromising photographs of a member of the royal family. Martine Love, a former model caught smuggling drugs into the country, is offered a way out: bring back the pictures and the charges disappear. She turns to Terry Leather, a struggling car dealer with a shady past, and tells him a job on that bank will pay well if he puts a crew together. Terry brings in his employee Eddie Burton, his friends Dave Shilling and Kevin Swain, and the criminal associates Bambas and Guy Singer. On a scouting trip, Dave runs into the gangster Lew Vogel, who once used him to make pornographic films.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Bank Job (2008)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- A ham radio operator overheard conversations between the real robbers and their rooftop lookout, contacted police and tape-recorded them. The film includes lines from those recordings, such as the lookout's comment that “money may be your god, but it's not mine, and I'm fucking off.”
- The real robbers rented a leather goods shop named Le Sac two doors from the bank and tunnelled about 40 feet (12 meters), passing under the Chicken Inn restaurant in between. The tunnelling took three weeks, working at weekends.
- The producers allege that the true story was prevented from being told in 1971 by a D-Notice, to protect Princess Margaret, and that this film is intended to reveal the truth for the first time, although it apparently includes significant elements of fiction.
