Trevor Bardette

Biography

Trevor Bardette was an American actor of film and television. Born in Nashville, Arkansas, he studied at Oregon State University, where he was a member of the dramatic club and earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1925, then a master of science degree from Northwestern University. He entered movies in 1936, abandoning plans for an engineering career, and his first role came in the 1937 Hopalong Cassidy western Borderland. Over a prolific career he made more than 172 films and 72 television appearances, often as rustlers, gangsters and wartime collaborators, and appeared uncredited as Art Huck in The Big Sleep (1946). On television he played the sinister title character of a 1951 Adventures of Superman episode and, from 1959 to 1961, the unscrupulous Old Man Clanton across 21 episodes of the western series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp. His last television work came in 1968 on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., and his final film was Mackenna's Gold.
