Plot summary
Gail Richards and her wealthy friend Ann Carrington are riding a taxi along the coast when a shot from a hidden rifle blows out a tire. Stranded, the two flag down a passing sports car belonging to the banker Cosmo Topper and ride with him to the Carrington mansion, where Ann has come to see her father and to inherit the family fortune. In the mansion's hall a chandelier crashes down, and Gail and Ann trade bedrooms for the night. A figure in black enters the room and kills the woman inside, mistaking her for Ann.
