Theresa Harris
Biography
Theresa Harris was an American actress, singer, and dancer who began in musical theater with the Lafayette Players after studying at the USC and Zoellner conservatories. Born in Houston and raised in Southern California, she made her film debut in Thunderbolt (1929), singing Daddy Won't You Please Come Home. Through the 1930s she was often uncredited, playing maids to stars such as Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, and Barbara Stanwyck, and bit parts in films including Horse Feathers (1932), Baby Face (1933), Mary Stevens, M.D. (1933), and Jezebel (1938). She had a credited role in Tell No Tales and later appeared in Cat People (1942), I Walked with a Zombie (1943), Strange Illusion (1945), and Out of the Past (1947). She performed on radio, often with Eddie Rochester Anderson, and on television in the 1950s, with her final film appearance in 1958. Lynn Nottage based the title character of By the Way, Meet Vera Stark on her.
