Cora Sue Collins

Biography

Cora Sue Collins was an American child actress who worked during Hollywood's Golden Years. Born in Beckley, West Virginia, she moved with family to Los Angeles. She made her film debut at five in The Unexpected Father in 1932 and went on to appear in 47 films, often as a leading lady's daughter or as the younger version of a lead in flashbacks. Among her credits were Smilin' Through (1932), in which she played Norma Shearer's character as a girl and which earned a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, and Queen Christina (1933), where she played the title role as a child. She also had supporting parts in Black Moon (1934), Evelyn Prentice (1934) as the daughter of William Powell and Myrna Loy's characters, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), where she was recast from Becky Thatcher to Amy Lawrence. A rare leading role came in Youth on Trial in 1945, and she left acting at 18.
