Plot summary

Dr. Lincoln I. Bartlett works as a throat specialist in New York and is engaged to Agnes Young, whose father, Dr. Carleton Radwin Young, is his mentor. Ina Massine, the opera singer he once married, arrives in the city convinced the divorce was a mistake and set on having him back. Through Delly Delacorte, an impresario and an old friend of hers, she gets herself booked as the featured singer with a doctors' orchestra that Linc plays oboe in, and she shrugs off his engagement. On the opening night of La Bohème her throat troubles her, so Delly sends for a doctor. Linc turns up in place of Dr. Young, believing she is pretending, and his examination finds symptoms of a tropical disease she may have caught while touring South America. He tells her she must rest her voice.
