Plot summary
The 2004 tsunami took the son of Jeanne and Paul Bellmer, and six months on the couple are still in Thailand. At an orphanage fund-raiser they watch footage recorded among native communities in Myanmar's South Tanintharyi division, and Jeanne fixes on a figure she takes to be the boy. Paul is reluctant to follow the lead, but he contacts Thaksin Gao, a trafficker with military connections who moves girls into bars in Myanmar, and pays an exorbitant fee for one of his boats. Sonchai, the master of that boat, carries the couple through the Thai-Burmese waters toward the village Jeanne believes she saw.
