Plot summary
Sarah and Tom are selling their London house to escape financial trouble. Their friends Richard and Beth come for one last dinner, and Jessica, an old friend who has just written a bestseller, comes along uninvited. Jessica's flirting and inappropriate jokes grate on Sarah, who is already tense about money, and Sarah shouts at her. Jessica leaves the table. When the others go looking for her before dessert, they find her dead in the garden. Tom wants to telephone the police, but Sarah refuses to let him, afraid a death at the house will cost them the sale they need to avoid ruin. She proposes moving the body to Jessica's own flat.
