Marie Windsor
Biography
Marie Windsor, born Emily Marie Bertelsen in Marysvale, Utah, was an American actress who became a fixture of film noir as a femme fatale. She studied drama at Brigham Young University and trained under Maria Ouspenskaya before working in radio and modeling in California. She took her stage name for the 1940 play Forty Thousand Smiths, and after a Warner Bros contract she began playing feature parts in 1947. Her first memorable role came opposite John Garfield in Force of Evil (1948), and she went on to The Narrow Margin (1952), The Sniper (1952), City That Never Sleeps (1953), Cat-Women of the Moon (1953) and Stanley Kubrick's The Killing (1956), usually as scheming wives and gangster molls. She moved into television, appearing in Salem's Lot (1979) and series such as Perry Mason and Murder, She Wrote, and retired in 1991. She won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award in 1987 and died in 2000.

About the name
Windsor first used the stage name Marie Windsor in 1940 in the play Forty Thousand Smiths, after moving to Hollywood and entering Ouspenskaya's drama school.

Windsor later studied acting primarily with Stella Adler and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, pursuing her studies more extensively thanks to her early screen success.
