Plot summary
In Baltimore, Anthony Draco and Harold Blount run a wax museum and also work as amateur detectives. They help the police capture Jason Cravette, an insane murderer who killed a woman and then married her. A court convicts him and sentences him to hang, but he escapes during his transfer by cutting off his own hand. The police assume he is dead. Cravette travels to New Orleans with a hook where the hand was and under another name, and he begins plotting revenge against everyone he holds responsible for his fate. In the city he takes charge of Marie Champlain, a prostitute, and sets out to turn her into a lady, then brings her back with him to Baltimore.

- Chamber of Horrors used two gimmicks to flag grisly moments: the Fear Flasher, which flashed the screen red for several seconds, and the Horror Horn, an audible alert. Both were added, along with a cameo by Tony Curtis, to increase the running time.
- Chamber of Horrors was originally shot as a television movie and as a pilot for a proposed series called House of Wax. It went to theaters only because it was considered too intense for television at the time.
