Plot summary
A wanted man named Burch tries to ambush the bounty hunter Jim Kipp, who comes out on top and brings the body into town for the reward. A Pinkerton representative then offers Kipp $5,000 to recover $100,000 taken by three masked robbers and to bring the culprits in, dead or alive. Kipp arrives in Twin Forks using another name and asks Dr. Spencer about the injuries of a man the doctor treated, though Spencer is careful about what he says. Kipp takes an interest in Julie, the doctor's daughter. A hotel worker with a limp, Bill Rachin, and George Williams, a card dealer, both draw his suspicion, and Williams's wife Alice questions him about his business in town. Kipp keeps his reason for being there to himself.

- For a fight scene, director DeToth allegedly shot it in one take with no rehearsal and encouraged Dolores Dorn and Marie Windsor to actually fight each other, leaving both women covered in dirt and perspiration.
- The Bounty Hunter was the last of six Westerns Randolph Scott made with director DeToth, and the first film to feature a bounty hunter as its hero.
