Plot summary
Guests and staff at a lodge in Kanab, Utah, lose their quiet when Marsha Morgan, a playgirl, is found with her throat cut. Sheriff Jess Holmes opens an inquiry. Among those he questions are the owner, Edmund Parry, who uses a wheelchair and admits he disliked the victim, and Parry's sister Julia, who is possessive and helps run the place. Los Angeles lawyer David Hewson is staying there and takes an interest in Beth Dixon, who works the switchboard and assists Parry. Other guests include Norman Grant, an actor, and his girlfriend Harriet Ames. A newcomer, Joseph Felton, registers, and Indian Joe, who is employed at the lodge, finds a kitchen knife that had gone missing and may be the weapon.
