Biography
Kevin Smith is an American filmmaker, actor, and podcaster from Red Bank, New Jersey. With the low-budget comedy Clerks (1994), which he wrote and directed and in which he appeared as Silent Bob, he came to prominence. Silent Bob and Jay also appeared in Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerks II (2006), Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019), and Clerks III (2022). Smith also directed Jersey Girl (2004), Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008), Cop Out (2010), Red State (2011), and Tusk (2014). In Live Free or Die Hard (2007), he played a computer hacker. He directed episodes of The Flash, Supergirl, and The Goldbergs, and created Clerks: The Animated Series and Netflix's Masters of the Universe. His filmed Q&A sessions began with An Evening with Kevin Smith (2002). Clerks won the Filmmaker's Trophy at Sundance, and Chasing Amy won two Independent Spirit Awards.

Early training
Smith spent four months at Vancouver Film School, where he met Scott Mosier and Dave Klein. He quit midway, believing he had learned enough and wanting to put money aside for his first film.
