Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Mallrats (1995)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Jason Lee had no acting experience at all when he was cast as Brodie Bruce, having previously worked as a professional skateboarder; Adam Sandler and Steve Zahn were both finalists for the role before Lee got it.
- Universal Pictures initially refused to cast Jason Mewes as Jay, even though the character was based on him and he had already played the role in Clerks; Mewes had to win the part in an audition against Seth Green and Breckin Meyer.
- Writer-director Kevin Smith wrote the role of mall manager Jared Svenning specifically for actor William Atherton, but Atherton turned it down because he did not want to be typecast.
- Casting Joey Lauren Adams as Gwen Turner had a lasting effect beyond Mallrats: she began dating director Kevin Smith afterward, and he went on to write the lead character of his next film, Chasing Amy, specifically for her.
