Plot summary
Jay and Silent Bob appear in court, where their lawyer Brandon St. Randy has them sign papers. The judge dismisses them, but the documents hand their names to a studio that is planning a Bluntman and Chronic reboot. At Brodie Bruce's comic shop they learn the new film, Bluntman V Chronic, will shoot a major scene at Chronic-Con. Brodie explains what a reboot is. The pair try to fly to California, but the airline clerk tells them they are on the no-fly list and points them to a ride app. They steal a businessman's credit card and meet their driver, Todd Merkinson, whom Jay renames Merkin. Stopping at Mooby's for food, Jay spots his ex-girlfriend Justice on television.

- Stan Lee was cast as himself in July 2017, but after his death the film's entire third act was rewritten, drawing on an unused draft of Mallrats 2, and the film was dedicated to his memory.
- Ben Affleck was not initially involved in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot; after he said in an interview that he would rather reprise Holden McNeil from Chasing Amy than Shannon from Mallrats, Kevin Smith reached out and wrote a scene for Affleck's Holden.
- Filming on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot began on February 25, 2019, in New Orleans, exactly one year after director Kevin Smith suffered a massive, near-fatal heart attack.
