Plot summary
The film is built from question-and-answer sessions recorded during a 2001 and 2002 speaking tour that stopped at Cornell University, Indiana University, Kent State University, the University of Wyoming and Clark University. At each one the filmmaker answers whatever the students put to him, covering his own movies, how he got his start in the movie industry, his friendships, and his dealings with the press, with fans and with celebrities. Among the stories he tells are his time writing a Superman film for a studio, meeting his future wife in 1999 while he was promoting Dogma, the birth of his daughter that year, and a week spent making a documentary for a pop star about God and the evolution of man.

- Smith tells how producer Jon Peters wanted generic blockbuster cliches put into his script for Warner Bros.' famously unreleased Superman Lives, among them Superman fighting a large spider, a story point Peters later used in his own box office bomb Wild Wild West.
- Smith describes being unknowingly forced to make a near five-hour documentary for Prince about God and the evolution of man, only for it never to see the light of day: it went into Prince's vault, which Smith says holds over 100 original music videos and hundreds of hours of unreleased music.
