Plot summary

A decade after the earlier film, Dante Hicks arrives at the Quick Stop to find it on fire, because Randal Graves left the coffee pot on overnight. With the store gone, the two men take jobs at Mooby's, a fast food restaurant, working with Elias Grover, a devout Christian teenager, and the manager Becky Scott. Dante is getting ready to leave his minimum wage life behind for Florida and his wealthy fiancée, Emma Bunting, whose parents plan to give the couple a house and a car wash to run. Jay and Silent Bob have moved their patch to the Mooby's parking lot, where the pair loiter after their arrest and rehab and a claimed turn to born again Christianity.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Clerks II (2006)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Kevin Smith wanted his wife Jennifer Schwalbach Smith to play Becky, but executive producer Harvey Weinstein wanted a known actress. Sarah Silverman and Bryce Dallas Howard both declined, Smith never offered the part to Rachel Weisz because he assumed she would refuse, and Ellen Pompeo could not commit because of Grey's Anatomy before Rosario Dawson took it.
  • The bookend Quick Stop scenes are in black and white to simulate the look of the original Clerks, and Smith desaturated the rest of the film almost to the texture of the first one, except in the ABC sequence, where a warmer, more saturated look adds to the playfulness.
  • Before release Smith planned to put out an MP3 commentary that viewers could download and play on an iPod while watching the film in the cinema, but theater owners and exhibitors objected and the plan was scrapped; the abandoned track, with Smith, Scott Mosier and Jeff Anderson, ended up on the DVD.
  • The Smashing Pumpkins' 1979, which is used in the film, was left off the soundtrack album, and in its place the record carries Think Fast by All Too Much, a song that never appears in the film.
