Biography

Kevin McNally is an English actor and writer who was born in Bristol and grew up in Birmingham. His first professional acting work came at age 16 at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, and in 1973 he received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he won the Best Actor Bancroft Gold Medal in 1975. He appeared in the BBC's I, Claudius in 1976, and in 1977 he joined the second series of Poldark as Drake Carne. His best known part is Joshamee Gibbs across the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and he is one of only three actors in all five films. He also appeared in Valkyrie (2008) and Conspiracy (2001). He wrote nine Minder episodes between 1991 and 1994 with Bernard Dempsey, using the pseudonym Kevin Sperring, and also wrote for Boon and Lock, Stock. Other television roles include Supernatural, Turn: Washington's Spies, and Doctor Who.
