Plot summary
Dr. Henry Jekyll is a troubled man whose wife died of pneumonia. He is drawn to his sister-in-law, whose father allows no contact between them. His experiments into the divided nature of man have produced a drug able to split a personality, and he has tried it on himself. The drug turns him into an uninhibited brute drawn to violent, undignified pleasures. Jekyll quickly grows addicted to the sordid freedom the drug brings: he can commit revolting deeds and then withdraw to his laboratory, take an antidote and revert to his usual self, so that his respectable public face stays unblemished.
