Plot summary
Twenty years after corporations seized the world's governments, their greed sparked the Corporate Wars, which wrecked civilization. From the ruins, the Council of Nine rose as the new authority, issuing death warrants for white-collar criminals. Bounty killers like Drifter and Mary Death carry out those warrants across the Thrice Burned Lands, competing for body count, fame and cash. When a Council warrant unexpectedly names Drifter, he goes on the run with his eager gun caddy Jack LeMans. Yellow-tie mercenaries from the corporation Second Sun chase them. Mary, caught between duty and loyalty, gets the same warrant and rides out to face Drifter.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Bounty Killer (2013)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The idea was first explored as a cartoon, then adapted into both a graphic novel and a short film; after the 2008 financial crisis, Saine realized that a feature-length adaptation would be even more timely.
- Shooting took just 18 days, and although the crew were fond of practical effects, the fast schedule left them unable to make extensive use of them; many of the cars used in the film were either donated or made available at low cost.
- Explicit themes of retrofuturism were dropped as too confusing for audiences, though the film keeps the aesthetic: the cars are all from the 1970s and much of the technology is analog.
- Saine's original versions of the story were closer in tone to The Road Warrior and were modeled after the Enron scandal.
