Henry Winkler
Biography
Henry Winkler is an American actor, director, producer, and author who became widely known for playing Arthur Fonzarelli, known as Fonzie, on the sitcom Happy Days from 1974 to 1984. He trained in theater at Emerson College and then at the Yale School of Drama, and after a small role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show he landed Happy Days. He later helped develop the original MacGyver and directed Memories of Me (1988) and also Cop and a Half (1993). His screen credits include The Waterboy (1998), Night Shift (1982), Black Adam (2022), Click (2006), and The French Dispatch (2021). On television, he had a career resurgence as Barry Zuckerkorn in Arrested Development, Eddie R. Lawson in Royal Pains, Dr. Saperstein in Parks and Recreation, and Gene Cousineau in Barry, winning a Primetime Emmy for the last. He co-wrote the Hank Zipzer children's book series and several memoirs.

Winkler, an unknown and not the first choice, auditioned for Fonzie on Happy Days. He returned in costume, said his six lines with a different voice, and was offered the role on his birthday, accepting if the producers showed who the character was when he removed his jacket.
