Plot summary
Jack Harris worked air traffic control in Chicago, where Transair flight 290, a Lockheed L-1011 carrying 174 people, went down under his authority. He was cleared of liability for the loss but left the job and spent the next five years designing air control software. On New Year's Eve, his former colleague T.C. Bryant, now in Phoenix, asks for his help with a critical staff shortage, with torrential weather predicted.
