Plot summary

Ralph, a retired New York police officer, plans to spend the holidays with his niece Jennifer in Naperville, Illinois. Jennifer is a successful businesswoman raising her young son Brian alone; her mother traveled constantly and her father died when she was young, so she grew up mostly at Ralph's. Christmas has lost its meaning for her. At the airport Ralph cannot find check-in, and Morgan Derby, a thirty-year-old chef with a carefree manner, helps him. When Ralph's connecting flight to Denver is canceled, he invites Morgan to stay at Jennifer's house. Jennifer is reluctant, but Ralph points out that Morgan can cook the turkey. She finds him careless and he finds her controlling, and she is dating Richard Windom, a successful businessman. Ralph thinks the two belong together and tries to stop Jennifer from sending Morgan away.
