Plot summary

Sylvester Stallone looks back at his life and at a career in film that spans nearly fifty years. He grew up in Manhattan, and movies gave him a way out of a rough childhood. He spent years as a struggling actor before reaching action filmmaking and the franchises that made him a star. The documentary uses photographs from his childhood, scenes from his films and footage of his pursuit of filmmaking, and it places interviews with people from his life and career beside his own account.
