Plot summary
Michael Newman draws buildings for a living, and his boss, John Ammer, keeps him late at the office while his wife Donna and the couple's two children wait for him at home. The night he tells Donna he is cancelling their family trip to finish a project, she argues with him about it. Fed up with juggling several remotes, he goes to Bed Bath & Beyond, wanders the aisles, dozes off on one of the display beds, and wakes to find a door marked Beyond. Behind it sits Morty, who hands him a prototype remote and warns that he cannot return it. The device governs his whole life, not only the television: it lets him skip traffic, illness and quarrels while his body keeps going on its own.

- Sony Pictures bought Steve Koren and Mark O'Keefe's spec script Click for $1.75 million in July 2003. The purchase came as Bruce Almighty, also written by Koren and O'Keefe, had grossed $236 million domestically in its two-month run.
- Principal photography on the film started on July 6, 2005, which coincidentally was the 10th anniversary of the start of principal photography, on July 6, 1995, of Happy Gilmore, another Adam Sandler film.
- For the scenes where Michael pauses his surroundings, the effects crew originally planned for the environment to be frozen too, but found this "bothered" the eye, so only the characters freeze while things like wind-blown leaves keep moving.
- When Click was released on DVD, Blu-ray and UMD on October 10, 2006 by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, it was the first dual layer Blu-ray disc to be released by Sony.
- The film is inspired by "The Magic Thread", a folk tale included in the moral anthology The Book of Virtues: A Treasury of Great Moral Stories.
- Koren and O'Keefe rewrote the script under the supervision of Juan José Campanella, announced as director in May 2004, but he was replaced in March 2005 by Frank Coraci, who had directed the Sandler films The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy.
