Plot summary
Imogen is a New York City college freshman who wants to be an artist, and Al Connelly is a sophomore at the same school. They meet, start dating, and within three months they have fallen in love. For Al's birthday Imogen arranges a private gallery showing of her art, and the two sleep together for the first time. Monk, Al's roommate, works as a pornographic film actor and director and tells Al that love is fleeting and illusory. Cyrus, Monk's co-star, flirts with Al, and a lost bet lands Al an extra's part in one of Monk's productions. Imogen, who wants his company before she leaves for a summer in France, argues with him over it, and he abandons the shoot to spend the night with her.
