Biography

Helen Hunt is an American actress and director who started as a child actress in the 1970s. Born in Culver City, California, she built a career across television and film. She became widely known for playing Jamie Buchman on the sitcom Mad About You from 1992 to 1999, a role that brought her four Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for As Good as It Gets (1997) and also starred in Twister (1996), What Women Want (2000), Cast Away (2000), and Pay It Forward (2000). Her other films include Bobby (2006), Soul Surfer (2011), and The Sessions (2012), for which she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She made her directing debut with Then She Found Me (2007) and directed Ride (2014) and episodes of television series.
