Plot summary
The West High Trojans built an undefeated season around captain Caroline "Line" Found, and the city expects another state title, with longtime rival City High the team to beat. During a party at her house, she slips out to see her mother Ellyn, who has cancer and is in the hospital. A moped accident kills Line that night. Coach Kathy Bresnahan keeps holding practice and asks Line's best friend, Kelley Fliehler, to rejoin the team, saying it is what Line would have wanted. Kelley refuses at first, though Bresnahan keeps at her until she finally agrees to come back.
