Plot summary
Lona Skinner and Bennett Russell are the only members of the debate club at Hemlock Prep Academy, and each wants the club presidency to strengthen a college application, Lona's to Harvard and Bennett's to Yale. Principal Nelson declares them co-presidents instead. At a tournament their mothers, Amy and Julia, are passive-aggressive toward each other, and the two reach the final and are named co-champions because they attend the same school. They submit their college applications the next day.
