Don Johnson

Biography

Don Johnson is an American actor and singer-songwriter who moved between television stardom and a long run of film roles. Born in Flat Creek, Missouri, and raised in Wichita, Kansas, he got his start on stage, playing the lead in the 1969 production of Fortune and Men's Eyes, and appeared in A Boy and His Dog (1975). Casting as undercover detective Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice, which ran from 1984 to 1990, made him a major international star and earned him a Golden Globe in 1986 and an Emmy nomination in 1985. He then headlined Nash Bridges from 1996 to 2001. His films include The Hot Spot (1990), Guilty as Sin (1993), Tin Cup (1996), Machete (2010), Django Unchained (2012), Cold in July (2014) and Knives Out (2019). He released the albums Heartbeat (1986) and Let It Roll (1989), and in 1996 he received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
