Plot summary
Teena, a single mother, and her twelve-year-old daughter Bethie are on their way home on the night of the Fourth of July, after midnight, when they meet a group of local men. The men rape Teena while Bethie watches. Bethie can identify the attackers afterward. Detective John Dromoor, a Gulf War veteran, is the first officer at the scene and by chance ends up in charge of the investigation. The evidence against the men seems overwhelming, but nothing in the case guarantees that they will answer for it, and some of those involved are ready to twist the law instead.
