Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Machete (2010)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Rodriguez told Rolling Stone that he wrote the screenplay in 1993, when he cast Trejo in Desperado, after hearing that the FBI or DEA would pay an agent from Mexico $25,000 to do a job too dangerous to risk their own agents on.
- Chris Cooper was approached for the role of Senator McLaughlin, and only after Cooper turned the role down was Robert De Niro cast.
- Jonah Hill was originally cast as Julio but was replaced by Daryl Sabara, who had worked with Rodriguez, Marin and Trejo on the set of the Spy Kids franchise.
- Machete is Trejo's first lead role, and it was Seagal's first theatrically released film since 2002's Half Past Dead, as well as his last theatrically released film to date.
- The film is banned in Ukraine because one of its co-stars, Seagal, visited Crimea during the Russian occupation without permission from the Ukrainian authorities, which caused him to be blacklisted.
