Mark Dacascos

Biography

Mark Dacascos is an American actor and martial artist who has worked largely in action films and television. Born in Honolulu, he holds a fourth-degree black belt in Wun Hop Kuen Do, the martial art founded by his father. He was spotted walking in San Francisco's Chinatown and cast in Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart, although the finished film dropped his scenes. His breakout came as a capoeira instructor in Only the Strong (1993), and he went on to Double Dragon (1994), Crying Freeman (1995), Drive (1997) and Cradle 2 the Grave (2003), in which he faced Jet Li. A Saturn Award nomination followed for Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001). He is also known for playing Wo Fat on Hawaii Five-0 and for his long run as The Chairman on Iron Chef America. In 2023 the Martial Arts History Museum added him to its hall of fame.

Mark Dacascos got into acting after Chris Lee, an assistant director, and Rexall Chinn, a hairstylist, spotted him walking in San Francisco's Chinatown while they worked for director Wayne Wang. He was cast in Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart.
A role that slipped away
Before Power Rangers existed, Dacascos was set to play the Red Ranger, Victor Lee, in Bio-Man, a Saban adaptation of Choudenshi Bioman that was never picked up but later evolved into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
